Privacy Policy

What Spill keeps, why it keeps it, and how you can make it go away.

This policy covers the Spill app for iPhone and Android and this website. “Spill”, “we” and “us” mean the team that makes the Spill app. If you have a question, email hello@spillcircle.com.

What we collect

  • Your account: your name, email address and password. We store your password only in hashed form, and we never show your email to other people.
  • Your circles: the circles you join, the nickname you use in each one, and the invite codes you use or share.
  • What you post: the spills (secrets, confessions and polls) you write, and whether you have revealed yourself as the author.
  • What you do with posts: your poll votes, reactions and guesses about who posted what.
  • Safety records: posts you report, the reason you give, and the people you block.
  • App usage: basic, first-party usage events (for example, which screens are opened) and device details such as app version and operating system, used to keep the app working and to improve it.

We don’t collect your contacts, location, photos or microphone. We don’t use advertising trackers.

How we use it

  • To run your account and sign you in.
  • To show spills to the members of the circle they were posted in, and keep the author hidden until they reveal themselves or someone guesses correctly.
  • To count votes, reactions, guesses and scores.
  • To review reports, remove content that breaks our rules, and ban people who repeatedly break them.
  • To fix bugs and understand how the app is used.

Who can see it

Members of your circle see your nickname and the spills posted there. They don’t see who wrote a spill unless the author reveals it or someone guesses right. We see the author of every spill, so we can deal with reports and abuse.

We don’t sell your data and we don’t share it for advertising. Your data is stored and processed by the hosting providers that run Spill’s servers, only to provide the service. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect someone’s safety.

How long we keep it

We keep your data while you have an account. When you delete your account, we delete your account, your nicknames, everything you posted, and your votes, reactions and guesses. Records of reports about content that broke our rules may be kept for a short time to keep people safe.

Your choices

  • Delete any spill you posted from inside the app.
  • Leave a circle at any time.
  • Delete your account and all your data from the app: Circle tab, then Delete account. You can also ask us to delete it.
  • Email us to access or correct your data.

Age

Spill is not for children. You must be at least 13 to use it, or older where your local law says so.

Changes

If this policy changes, we’ll update the date at the top of this page and, for big changes, tell you in the app.
